Happy Spring! It’s March, aka the start of rebirth and growth! Taylor and Jayla’s love for The Hunger Games has risen from the snow, with the duo attending THE book release party of the year for Suzanne Collins’ newest masterpiece! Hyperfixations are so back, with the two dedicating themselves to the arts through rereads, fanfiction, movie attendance, and curating their spring aesthetics! March was also International Women’s Month; of course, we had a women takeover everywhere: the box office, literature world, and in sports, even! Women’s March Madness for basketball had record views, F1 has its first women race engineer, and SZA is on her 18th straight week of being #1 on the pop charts plus a box-star success in One of Them Days being put on Netflix! Here’s two of the coolest women in pop culture’s March Highlights!
JAYLA
Favorite Movie: Napoleon Dynamite, a life long love. I talked more about this on Reel/Girl so go get into that!
Favorite Show: I have become obsessed with Criminal Minds. My mom and I like to try and solve the cases before they’re revealed in the show, and whenever I get it right I feel like I have the biggest brain on the planet. I am also a Matthew Gray Gubler lover, as is everyone. One of these days I am going to take a trip to NYC and “run into” him on the sidewalk. Trust.
Favorite Book: Huge shocker, Sunrise on the Reaping…I genuinely can’t even believe it’s real. Taylor and I have been life long Hunger Games lovers and this has been the missing piece to the puzzle. Suzanne Collins is a legendary author. They will study her for years to come.
Favorite Song: In an attempt to lure some spring weather to our dreary New England, Ventura Highway by America and George Martin has been my feel-good track while driving through my little city. Like, yes, chewing on a piece of grass, walkin’ down the road. Love it.
Favorite Pop Culture Moment: The trailer for the new Tony Hawk Pro Skater game. I have 3 older brothers, so these games soundtracked most of my early years. When it comes out in July, you will never see me again. I will be too busy skating virtually.
TAYLOR
Favorite Movie: Mickey 17. Bring back originality, bring back uniqueness, bring back fun! A great film with a Black love interest NOT discarded? Sign me up!
Favorite Show: I’ve been on my anime grind this month, rewatching a TON of nostalgic ones! Spy x Family is a gem, a family-friendly show that I’ve been watching with the girls at work! Loid Forger is a spy married to an assassin, neither knows what the other does! They adopt a daughter named Anya, who also is a psychic! They build a mock-family, with Loid meant to investigate Donovan Desmond, who has a child at the school Loid tries to enroll Anya into. Of course, chaos ensues…..
Favorite Book: If you didn’t see the post we have already done about this book, you’re a fake subscriber to our blog. OBVIOUSLY, Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins is THE book of March, maybe even the year. It has spurred Jayla and I on a dark path of rereading the entire series, and has rekindled 13-year-old Taylor’s love for reading. A full-depth analysis about this beautiful story will be posted soon. We love you Haymitch, and we now understand you on a level that has shattered our hearts insurmountably.
Favorite Song: Not a favorite song, but I DID see Rich Amiri in concert! I love his music, he’s on my gym playlist, and he sings my #1 song from my Spotify Wrapped, One Call! Seeing him live was fun, he’s not a generational great or anything but it was fun to jam out to his stuff for a while!
Favorite Pop Culture Moment: The restart of Formula 1. If you guys didn’t know, I am a HUGE F1 fan, and watching Lewis Hamilton in a red uniform for the first time ever was incredibly cinematic, in a way. I could rant about this sport for ages, but all I have to say is that this season will be CHAOS, and might even be the best one yet….
Thank you March, for reviving all the hyperfixations we lost during the winter! As we spring into the better weather and media, continue to check out everything we publish! Of course, we have way more to say, but for now, C U Next Tuesday!
